How to Get Rid of Frizzy Hair 14 Different Ways

1. Hydrate

One of the primary causes of frizzy hair is a lack of hydration. You can use products such as coconut oil to hydrate your hair. After you finish shampooing and conditioning your hair, add some coconut oil to the ends of your hair. Start by using it every two weeks, and you increase it to once a week if necessary.

It is safe to use coconut oil on its own, and it works for any type of hair. When you first use it, start with a few drops. You can use more if you need to. It penetrates into the hair shaft, and reduces the damage done by other products. Coconut oil is hydrophobic, so it’ll prevent your hair from absorbing water and drying out. This is why it eliminates frizz.

2. Use a Hair Mask

If your hair is super dry, you should consider using a hair mask. You apply it and keep it in overnight. Make sure that you cover your hair with a shower cap, or place an old towel over your pillow. This is a treatment that you should try about once a month to get your frizz under control.

A hair mask is also called a deep-conditioning treatment. They contain more concentrated ingredients than standard conditioners. You can also make one yourself with bananas, honey, or even egg yolk. Your hair will be shinier and softer, and the frizz will be reduced.

3. Use a Heat Protectant

Many styling tools, including your hairdryer, curling iron, and more, use heat. This can damage your hair and make it frizzy. Although you can continue to use these tools, you should use a heat protectant before you do. It’ll leave a protective coating on your hair and prevent the heat from damaging it.

When you get out of the shower, spray it on your hair. Use a comb to spread it evenly throughout the hair. It’s important to remember that the heat protectant spray will reduce the damage from heat styling products, but it won’t prevent it.

4. Use a Hydrating Shampoo

When you choose your shampoo, you need to find one that will hydrate your hair. This is especially true in the summer when the weather is warm. Make sure that you stay away from a shampoo that contains alcohol because it’ll dehydrate your hair.

Hydrating shampoos actually add water, proteins, humectants, amino acids, and more to your hair. Some natural humectants include coconut water, honey, glycerin, or aloe vera. These are different from moisturizing shampoo, which coats the outer surface of the hair. Hydrating shampoo helps restore your hair and reduces the frizz.

5. Find a Great Hair Dryer

All hair dryers are not created equally, and some will make your hair frizzier. Look for a professional-grade hair dryer and get a quality brush to go with it. These hair dryers last longer than others, and they are designed to make sure that your hair is sleek and smooth.

When you dry your hair, point it down from the roots to the ends. This helps to close up your hair cuticles, which will limit the frizziness.

6. Hairspray

As soon as you finish drying your hair, be sure to spray any frizzy parts with hairspray. You don’t have to spray it directly. You can spray it on your fingers and smooth your hair, or you can spray it on your brush. This will help to get rid of frizz and keep it away for the day.

While you can use hairspray to get rid of frizz, make sure that you don’t use a lot of it. Using too much hairspray can have the opposite effect and damage your hair.

7. Accessorize

There is no shortage of great hair accessories on the market today. If you still have frizzy flyaway hairs, you should use accessories to tame them. You can use a headband for flyaways around your face or get some bobby pins or scrunchies to hold them in place.

8. Shampoo Every Other Day

When you wash your hair with shampoo every day, it can lose its natural minerals and proteins. It also leads to greater production of oil. Your hair can become dehydrated and frizzy. Try using shampoo every other day, and see how it goes.

Many shampoos contain harsh chemicals that damage your hair and dry it out. As you reduce your shampooing schedule, be sure to look for shampoo products that contain fewer chemicals and more vitamins and nutrients for your hair.

9. Try Dry Shampoo

If you are new to shampooing your hair every other day, you can use dry shampoo to help oily roots. It will take away any greasy look and still help control the frizz. It also works if your hair is too dry and brittle.

10. Get a Silk Pillowcase

Many people don’t realize that cotton pillowcases grab the hair and add to its frizziness. A silk pillowcase helps your hair stay moist and doesn’t create any friction. You can find them in any color you like and they are quite affordable.

When you sleep on a silk pillowcase, your hair slides right over it without any friction to slow it down. Not only will it cut down on your frizz, but it will reduce tangles and bedhead. Silk doesn’t absorb the moisture from your hair, so it stays hydrated while you are sleeping.

11. Use a Microfiber Towel

If you’re used to using a cotton towel, you need to rethink it. Just as cotton pillowcases pull on your hair and dry it out, a cotton towel is hard on your hair. Use a microfiber towel instead, as they are gentle and prevent static. This type of towel also helps reduce frizz and absorbs a lot of moisture to reduce the time you spend drying.

The problem with a cotton towel is that it has a coarse texture and it roughs up the hair shaft. In addition to contributing to frizz, it actually makes split ends worse and weakens the hair. A microfiber towel is gentle and absorbs the extra water without drying your hair out. If you don’t have one handy, you can use a soft t-shirt.

12. Buy Anti-Frizz Sheets

Another hair product that helps with frizz is a good set of anti-frizz sheets. If it’s humid out, you can wipe them over the frizz to tame it. If you don’t have any anti-frizz sheets, you can use a dryer sheet in place of it. Take one sheet and smooth it on any frizz on your hair. They also smooth out flyaway strands and make your hair look sleek.

13. Style Your Hair Wet

If your hair is dry or damaged, you can skip the towel altogether and put the product directly on your hair when it is wet. If your hair is curly, this allows your natural curls to look fantastically curly without the frizz.

14. Use Hand Lotion in an Emergency

If you find some frizz in your hair and you don’t have other products on hand, take a dab of hand lotion and rub it between your fingers. Place a thin coating on the frizz to smooth it right out.
