How Much Does a Haircut Cost on Average?

Graphic titled Average Haircut Price with an average men's haircut price, average women's haircut price, and national overall average

Now that we’ve looked at the average prices for haircuts in cities across America, let’s drill it down a little further. What’s the nationwide average price for a haircut in the U.S.?

  • The nationwide average price for a men’s haircut is $40.
  • The nationwide average price for a women’s haircut is $66.
  • The nationwide average price for a haircut (men’s or women’s) is $53.

Most of the salons we surveyed did include a shampoo, haircut, blow dry, and simple style in the cost of their haircuts. So if these prices seem a little higher than you were expecting, know that you’ll likely get more than just a haircut for the price you pay.

There are a couple more important things to consider, too. The salons we surveyed are located in the most populous cities in each state, so their prices may not reflect the average salon price in smaller cities. The average prices for haircuts in your city might be much less than those listed here.

Against a blue background sits the You Probably Need a Haircut salon locator tool

Another thing to keep in mind: The salons we surveyed were also independent salons, not franchise salons. Franchise salons like Great Clips, Sport Clips, and Supercuts all have much lower pricing than what’s listed here. You can check out pricing for these salons here:
