The different Sport Clips haircut packages can be a little confusing at first, so we’ll look at those in more detail next. Here’s what you get with each Sport Clips hair service.
Sport Clips Haircuts
Sport Clips calls their haircuts “Varsity haircuts.” These are available for adults, seniors, and children. In most Sport Clips locations, seniors (those that are “65 and wiser”) and children (12 and under or 10 and under, depending on location) pay a reduced price for a Varsity haircut.
The Varsity haircuts are called precision haircuts in all Sport Clips marketing and service menus. It indicates the cuts are engineered to take the customer’s natural hair patterns and textures into account.
This ensures the cuts are not “cookie-cutter” or the same for every customer. Varsity haircuts may use scissors, clippers, or a combination to achieve the desired look.
Sport Clips Packages
In addition to Varsity haircuts, Sport Clips offers a few packages that bundle other services with a haircut. There are Triple Play and MVP packages available. Here’s what they include.
- The Triple Play package includes a haircut, steamed towel treatment, and shampoo scalp massage. You can double the length of time for the steamed towel treatment and shampoo scalp massage for $5 or triple it for $10 extra.
- The MVP package includes a haircut, steamed towel treatment, shampoo scalp massage, leave-in conditioner, and neck and shoulder massage. You can double the length of time for the steamed towel, scalp, and neck and shoulder massage for $6 or triple the length for $12 more.
Sport Clips Add-Ons
Sport Clips also offers several add-ons that can be purchased a la carte or with another service. These are the add-ons you can choose from.
- The All-Star Treatment add-on includes a steamed towel treatment, shampoo scalp massage, leave-in conditioner, and a neck and shoulder massage. It is basically the MVP package without the haircut.
- Beard detailing is available as an add-on. This does not include beard shaving, just grooming, trimming, or detailing.
- Bang trims are also offered as an add-on. You can come in and just get a quick trim in-between haircuts to keep your bangs out of your eyes.
- Neck trims are offered for free to any Sport Clips customer in-between visits.
Sport Clips Prices by Service
It’s helpful to see how the prices of different Sport Clips services vary by location. We compared some of the prices from a West coast location (Laguna Niguel, California) and an East coast location (Greensburg, Pennsylvania) to give you a sense of what you might pay at a Sport Clips near you.
Varsity, Buzz, and Detail Haircuts
The Varsity haircut may be priced a few dollars differently at certain Sport Clips locations, but the range of prices you’ll see falls between $20 to $25. At Sport Clips in Laguna Niguel, CA, the Varsity haircut is $20. In Greensburg, PA, it’s $23.
Buzz cuts are usually $17 at all Sport Clips locations. Buzz cuts are done with one clipper length over the entire head. These are priced in line with a kids or senior cut and are cheaper than Varsity precision cuts.
If you need a more detailed haircut, or if your hair is very long, you will get the Detail Haircut price (+$10). A $20 Varsity cut will turn into a $30 Detail cut if there is a lot of detail in your desired cut.
Junior and senior haircuts are typically a few dollars cheaper than the classic Varsity haircut. At the location in Laguna Niguel in California, the kids cut is $15 and the senior cut is $17 (compared to the $20 adult Varsity cut).
At the location in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, kids and senior cuts are both $17 (compared to the Varsity haircut price of $20).
Usually, you’ll pay somewhere between $15 and $20 for a kids or senior haircut at Sport Clips.
Triple Play Package
The Triple Play package is very similar to the MVP but does not include neck and shoulder massage. The lowest price we found for the Triple Play package was $24 (in Laguna Niguel, CA).
It is $26 in Greensburg, PA. Most Sport Clips locations around the country charge an average of $24 on the low end to $28 on the high end for the Triple Play package.
MVP Package
The MVP package has everything you could want at Sport Clips: A haircut, hot towel treatment, shampoo scalp massage, leave-in conditioner treatment, and neck and shoulder massage. It’s a little higher priced than the Triple Play, but not by much.
At the Laguna Niguel location, the MVP package is $25. In Greensburg, PA, it’s $26. And in Sparks, NV, it’s $28. Overall, you’ll pay somewhere between $25 and $33 for the MVP treatment.
Unless you’re a new customer, that is! Sport Clips offers a free upgrade to the MVP experience for first-time customers. And you can even double the length of the treatment for $6 or triple it for $12.
All-Star Treatment
If you don’t need a haircut but want the All-Star Treatment, you’ll get it for less than $10. The All-Star Treatment includes everything the MVP package does – just without the haircut. At most locations, this add-on is $8.
Trims and Grooming
Get your beard, bangs, or neck trimmed at Sport Clips for a low price. Beard detailing (no shaves) costs around $6 at most locations, as do bang trims. You can bundle beard detailing with your haircut or haircut package or ask for it a la carte with no other services.
Neck trims are free for Sport Clips customers in-between haircuts. So, if you notice your neck beginning to get a little scraggly before you’re due for another cut, you can stop by, and the stylist will trim it up for you at no charge.
How Much to Tip at Sport Clips
Many people who aren’t salon or barbershop regulars wonder how tipping works in this industry. Is it considered essential to tip your stylist or barber after every visit? Fortunately, there are some pretty simple tipping etiquette rules to follow in the hair care industry.
Bad Service
A 10% tip is on the low end. If you didn’t get the exact cut you wanted, or if you didn’t receive excellent customer service, you might tip 10% of the cost of your bill to the stylist. A 10% tip for a $20 total is $2, so you’d pay $22.
Good Service
Generally, a 15% tip is considered appropriate for your average salon visit. If you like the haircut and want to show your appreciation, you should tip 15%. A 15% tip on a $20 total is $3, making your total expense $23.
Excellent Service
If you plan on going back to your stylist and really liked the haircut or service they provided, tip 20% to 25%. This will help you show your appreciation and build a good long-term relationship with the stylist.
A 20% tip on a $20 total is $4, making your total expense $24. A 25% tip for a $20 service is $5, making your total $25. You don’t have to tip if you did not have a good experience at the salon.
But it’s recommended that you speak with the manager or stylist to let them know that you weren’t satisfied. If you don’t mention your dissatisfaction and don’t leave a tip, stylists will likely think you liked the haircut, but didn’t want to shell out the extra dollars for a tip.
